This curious letter was unearthed recently. The writer is Elizabeth ‘Lizzie’ Seddon. She was the sister of William Seddon who lived in Sefton Road, and he was my grandmother’s father. I hope that makes sense!
I think the letter was written when Lizzie was an elderly lady and it’s a little confusing. The Silkstone pit that she refers to was near Barnsley and opened in the 1850s. If the accident occurred about 100 years previously then the letter was written in the 1940s or 1950s, when Lizzie was in her 80s or 90s.
What became of the possible inheritance is unknown but it seems I might have been a bit wealthier than I actually am!
