1911 Pigeon Gun 2nd barrel stop.

New owner of an LC Pigeon gun. Double trigger. Ejectors. Pistol grip. Made 1911. Thank you Dr Jim for confirming DOM. A few curiosities- 1) comes with 2nd type barrel stop. 2) Chain damascus 3)PE stamped on forearm iron only. Reading from “The Legend Lives” Houchins mentions 2nd type barrel stop guns are rare. Is there anyway to know how many were made with 2nd barrel stop? I read Houchins’ retraction on this site where he stated in his book that 2nd barrel stops were on extractor guns only. Which he corrected to all 2nd types are on ejector guns. 1214 Pigeon guns made. Any information on how many made with 2nd barrel stop? How many made with chain damascus?

Interesting that the purchaser chose Chain Damascus in 1911 reflecting his good taste and discernment

The Pigeon guns were one of the earliest grades offered with Crown Steel c. 1893

Hi Kris,

Not sure how rare it is, but I have 4 Pigeon Guns with the 2nd type joint check (a.k.a. barrel stop):

Qty - DOM
1 - 1903 (3-pos safety)
1 - 1904 (no safety - "Live Bird" config)
2 - 1907 (2-pos safety)

All 4 have type 2 ejectors (banjo escutcheon).

Did you check behind the left lock plate to see if there is a "PE" stamped in the frame?

I have not removed the lock plate. PE is stamped on the barrel flat.

I’m somewhat surprised that someone would have bought damascus over steel. Might have been an old timer when men were men they used damascus.
