Rebluing??

Hey all I have owned my LC smith for around 7 years and got it from an old family friend when I was around 15 (23 now) I would love to have it reblued but I don’t know who to trust doing it as I would have to mail it for one and two I’ve heard it’s best to leave it alone but I would think a good quality reblue would protect it for another 112 years. Someone had painted the barrels black when I got it and I had someone remove the paint for me back to the original finish but I am still not satisfied. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions ? Pros and cons to rebluing?

Ethan, what does the rest of the gun look like? If it’s in great shape it may be worth rebluing to match the rest of the gun.

Trevor the wood is original has one crack at the head next to the top of the receiver but I seldom shoot it so that doesn’t worry me the wood is extremely dark on the forearm and head of the stock but it is a good tight gun

You should have your gun examined by someone who is familiar with LC Smith guns.
If the head of the stock has a crack and the wood is dark it is probable that the wood is oil soaked and fragile. The oil would have to be removed, the crack repaired and the head strengthened. There are tutorials on the various collector sites for the various procedures. It is not hard to do the work if you are handy. If you can bring it to the Spring Southern next month you can get the best guidance from experts.

Ethan: small cracks very likely mean something much worse when the head of the stock is examined, and dark wood often means oil soaking

This is a stock that has had the oil removed

It is wise to repair the cracks before this
