Removing side plates, 1906 SxS

I read a thread here on removing side plates but it wasn’t for a single screw 1906 SxS. I’ve got the single stew 3 pins plate. Would it be the same and how much difficulty would it be to re-assemble? Thank you for the help.

Richard the process is the same just remove the single screw to remove the side plate. You are stating 3 pin side plate which should be a hammer gun and so just remove the single screw.

Thanks David, I just wanted to make sure prior to doing it. It’s now the putting back on I’m leery of😂

In putting the side plate back on, which ever side you pick first you have to push that trigger forward so that the sear goes on top of the trigger plate. If not the sear will be pushing against the trigger plate and you will not get the side plate to go on.
If you have both side plates off, you can look into the hole where the sears go through and see the trigger plate, move the trigger forward and you will see the trigger plate move downward.

David I will be removing both sides. I’m cleaning the stock and checking the internals for debris as well. If I run in to trouble I’ll certainly be here looking for help😂. It’s going to be a wall hanger but I want it to be functional and beautiful regardless.

David will this decock after removing screw? Right now the right will sometimes decock by itself and will always if I pull left trigger first. I’ve got my eye on some hammers right now to pick up for this.

Removing the screw should have nothing to do with that side firing. The only thing I can think of is that at one time someone tried putting the lock plate on and did not push the trigger forward and bent the trigger plate causing the opposite trigger to fire.
The easiest way is to put the right lock plate on and look through the hole on the left side of the stock and see if the sear from the right lock is touching the left top trigger plate.

A 1906 hammer gun can be a fun gun to shoot. I suggest that when you are finished that you have it inspected by a competent sxs gunsmith and shoot it.

I’m at a crossroads on this. After reviewing the FAQ’s still confused. On disassembly of the SxS hammer gun side plates should the hammers be cocked when removed or does it matter? Also, when reassembling which should they be? If cocked prior do I need to de-cock to re-assemble? I get pushing the triggers forward when reassembling. Thank you for a response.

The hammers do not need to be cocked to reassemble a hammer gun or when removing them.

Thanks David, I’ve got everything the way it should be, tested the hammers and it’s working great!
Now on to the rusting and etching process for my Damascus😂

Do side locks need to be cocked before removing screw?
