LC Smith Olympic

Reposting after reading the rules.

I have an LC Smith Olympic Trap Shotgun and upon first shooting it, I noticed that shells extract to where they should, but the ejectors do not pop the shell out. It is hard to pull the shells out as if they are bound. I do not know if the gun needs cleaning and lubrication or if I should not be using modern plastic hull 2 3/4 shells, or it may need some work. I dismantled an unfired shell except for the primer(no snap caps available) and the shell ejected fine.

Neat Charles. The Olympic SBT was introduced in 1927. This is a 1930 hardware store ad. $100 then would be about $1500 now.

Wrap some steel wool on a jag, chuck a short section of cleaning rod in a drill, add some Remoil, and go to town on the chamber.

Steel based shells in even "modern" guns often stick in the chamber - try some brass base loads like the Winchester AA or Remington STS. The Remington Gun Clubs have a steel base.

If there continues to be difficulty with ejection of spent shells, you probably need a new ejector spring.

Thank you for your reply and the information. I think I read somewhere that there were 565 of these guns made? Is replacing an ejector spring a hard task? I would hate to render the shotgun useless. At the same time i don't want to dump hundreds of dollars in it Where would i be able to go for the springing? I am in northeast Pennsylvania. Do you have any suggestions on someone knowledgeable about these guns who would be able to work on it for me, or is it a "gunsmith 101" thing?

Dr. Jim has recorded 596 Olympic SBTs. All Hunter Arms SBTs from 1941 on were Olympics, except for a single Specialty in 1948.
Your gun deserve a disassembly and internal cleaning Charles. Someone should be able to suggest a qualified smith near you.

Lou Rotelli might be willing to help clean and or repair your single barrel LCS after the bird hunting season.... As Doctor Drew mentioned already, you must use high quality shotgun shells in your single barrel LCS....... Use AA or RST or STS shotgun shells in your LCS...... posted by Jent.
