Hunter made a bunch of live bird/pigeon guns to include guns in 20-bore and at least one Deluxe Grade. Live bird guns were made both before and after the top strap was changed from a two piece unit to one solid piece. And although I can tell you that all Smith live bird guns I've seen showed no evidence of a safety slot having been filled/plugged; most times such evidence would be seen from the underside of the strap. I confess I've never taken a Smith live bird gun apart to inspect for that detail; but I'm sure David Williamson will chime in shortly and resolve that issue.
