Continue my 9/06/17 post. We (perhaps just me) are struggling to figure out exactly what Hunter Arms did for gun barrel tube producers. I'm not a steel making expert, but it seems (from recent readings) around this time period there were considerable advancements in steel making technology. I'm making reference to Holcomb Steel Companies marketing brochure dated 1916 and later revised in 1919. Rich Beyer, the FIRST Charter member of the LCSCA wrote a book dated July, 23, 1995. He says on page 65... "An interesting piece of history has just been found. It seems that Hunter Arms Co. owned a part of the Crucible Steel Co. of Syracuse, New York and most of the steel for their barrels came from there. So we have that information. Earlier, this month, Tom Breedon brought to our attention that Mr. L. C. Smith was Chairman of Board of the Executive Officers of the Halcomb Steel Company, Syracuse, NY. So, I will allege that Mr. Smith had considerable clout in a Company which he has at the very least, a modest investment. As Mr. Breedon said - ....he wasn't invited there for his good looks. He was invited there either because he was a large investor or because there was a business relationship between Hunter and Halcomb. More to continue. Roger
