    We don't have the original order books, only the shipping ledgers which are limited to the basics (gauge, barrel length, some options, etc.); but a 4E would be a special order gun, and certainly the buyer could have specified a horn tip. As to the "steel butt plate"; are you referring to a skeleton butt plate? If so, yes Hunter did fit guns with skeleton butt plates on special order; as well as heel and toe plates, and fully checkered butts according to some old factory price sheets I've seen. Examples of Smith guns with these features are very uncommon, but exist; and although I've Smith guns produced with skeleton butts, I've never removed one to see if the plate was serialized to the gun (would think it should be).
