As always, our goal should be to use loads that reproduce ballistically those for which the gun was designed minus some safety margin for the 100 year old wood. For the 1895 - mid 1920s 10g that would be 1 1/4 oz. 4 1/4 Dr. Eq. and Dense Smokeless powders of that era generated pressures similar or higher than shotgun powders today.
