    Lien's Big Ten Archived Message

David Lien graciously gave me the barrels (only) to a c. 1895 F grade hammer gun SN 51448; 32" weighing 5# 14oz.! He found them in the rafters of a cabin on a mountain in Idaho; no road and barely a path.
I've been scrubbing my fingers to nubbins with a Big 45 Frontier Pad, inside and out and they now are a nice 'plum' with areas of remarkable original Twist contrast. Got the joint check - extractor assembly un-frozen and working fine now.
Interestingly the chambers are 3 1/8" and bores .798"; standard .775". MWT at the end of the chambers is .174" left and .167" right. MWT at 9" from the breech is .092" and 9" from the muzzle .050".
Choke constriction is .048 both barrels!
The left barrel has two dents that are visible in the bore that need to be lifted, and the right barrel is quite rough and both could benefit from honing, and there is plenty of wall thickness to do it.
I must assume at some point the chambers were lengthened and barrels honed.
Bottom line - they would be great turkey whackers after the barrel work. David thought someone might have a similar era 10g hammergun with chopped barrels that could use these, and I'd be happy to GIVE them to someone for the cost of shipping.
