Thanks David. You seem to be the guy who answers all my LC Smith questions! I did remove the trigger guard which exposed the correct serial number and also the letter M. I then removed the trigger guard from another LC Smith manufactured from the same year, 1902, to compare the size and apperance of the numbers. Both sets of serial numbers look similar and are the same size, 3/8" high. The second gun also had the grade number stamped where the M is stamped on the Pigeon Grade gun. From this information can one assume that the Pigeon Gun was ordered with Monogram wood and checkering?
