There was a period of time when the three position safety was standard on all guns, not just trap guns. There are several parts that are different between the guns that have two position safeties and those that have three position safeties: the safety blade, the safety spring, the safety ever and the triggers. There is no difference in the frames between the two types. It is pretty easy to convert a three position safety to a normal two position safety if that is desired, and none of the parts have to be changed.
