    Safety Question Archived Message

I inherited my grandfather's LC Smith a few years ago and benched my Lefever as I have found the LC to be a much more enjoyable shotgun. My father came into the gun first and decided the safety was not operating correctly so he took it apart and put it back together. It then operated "normally" for 2 years until present. Normal as in forward was fire back was safety "on". I recently had the gun go off on me while ptarmigan hunting and upon study of the gun noticed the safety in the all the way back position. I unloaded the gun and squeezed the triggers to test the safety and the firing pin released. I then toggled the safety and found I now had 3 positions to chose from. Middle position being a "safe" position. I was baffled until I read about the trap models. I do not have the serial right now but will get that to the group. Does that sound normal to have not had 3 positions and then something work out to get 3 positions? Or might something be amiss. I contacted local smiths and they too were baffled.

I am very happy to find a dedicated organization to such a fine gun. I will be joining if accepted!
