Ronald - I recently acquired an 1893 A-1. Great guns. I have not hunted with it, but I have taken it sporting clays shooting twice so far. If you want to leave the original chokes in the gun you can shoot the Polywad DoubleWide shells (spread-r shells). They shoot very nice out of the full chokes. You really have to open up the barrels all the way on my A-1 to cock the gun, so I think that is common like David said. You might want to check your trigger pulls to make sure they are not too light. If you can, shoot some clays with it to get a good feel of the gun before you get in the field again. By the middle of my second outing with the A-1 I was hitting the clays at a pretty good rate (for me).
