Chuck, you'll find the serial number on the barrel flats and the water table of the receiver. Follow the link to the serial number lookup. It is pre-set for 1913-1971, and no 3" chamber guns were made prior to 1913. If there is an "S" in the prefix, enter that along with all the digits. The year of manufacture should pop up.
You may want to double-check the barrel length. Probably 32".
