David and Doug: For thin, flat springs, I have found the blue steel shim stock sold by McMaster -Carr, MSC or Travers Tool to work well. I cut it with aviation shears and file or grind it to shape, then bend as necessary. It comes in a variety of thicknesses, or as a pack of several thicknesses. Tom
