    Frank, your for-end with the rectangle escutcheon is from the 1930's, and if you take the wood from the metal you should see the serial number stamped into the knuckle part of the wood. It might also be on the escutcheon bottom. Hard to see the picture of it, but from the checkering looks to be from at least a Specialty Grade. To me the stock looks like a replacement, but take out the trigger guard wood screw and lift it out of the fit and rotate it to see if there is a serial number stamped into the wood inlet.

    The serial number places it at 1904 but it has the Hunter Arms logo with nitro proofing which didn't start until the 1920's. My guess is that at this time either a new set of barrels was made with the vent rib or the old ones were fitted with the vent rib and then stamped.

    Either way a nice looking gun and should be a good trap gun.
