Tom, there really is no need to remove the lock plate, if there is a pin behind the lock plate connecting screw, then it would be a 3 pin lock and the date is 1900. Starting around serial number 150000, the locks are now a 2 pin 1 screw and there is not a pin next to the screw. Also at this time the top tang will be tapered and not stepped. Message Thread: L.C.
