Barry: I don't believe that your forend could be for a 20ga gun. The forend has the clam shell latch which is found on type I ejectors, and those ejectors were replaced by the type II ejectors in 1901, while the 20 gauge wasn't introduced until 1907. Also, I believe that the serial number would belong to an ejector gun built in 1899, although the serial number book for ejector guns in that year are apparently missing.
I hope you find the gun that belongs to the forend.
