Hello Craig, Take your L C Smith to DEWEY VICKNAIR along with a pile of cash and ask him to FIX EVERYTHING !! In 6 or 7 months when you get your L C Smith back you will have a reliable L C Smith that shoots great. YES, Dewey will pull both the top and bottom ribs and clean all the metal surfaces and put everything back perfectly. In a 99 year old L C Smith SXS, that has been messed with by unknown gunsmiths, there will be many items that need Dewey's special attention. If you are attending THE VINTAGE CUP 2008 you can meet Dewey and see examples of his restorations being shot and shot hard. Nothing about these L C Smiths is cheap. Correctly restoring a L C Smith to good shooting condition will not be cheap. Nothing will be SIMPLE about correctly repairing your L C Smith. These old SXS's are great fun to shoot once they are put back in good condition. If you enjoy shooting your L C Smith then get the work done and do not give any thought to the cost, make it so you can have some fun with it. There are only 3 or 4 gunsmiths East of The Mississippi River that can correctly restore your L C Smith. Be very careful about who you trust to work on your L C Smith. Good Shooting To You, Jent ---- jentpmitchell@msn.com
