Does the spending ever stop? Archived Message

10 years ago I made a great deal! or did I? I traded a mossberg 500 for a 1909 l.c. smith 12 guage field grade feather weight. The gun seemed in nice condition with the exception of a broken (replaced) stock. I thought well how hard can it be to get one of those. Well $1500 later I have a nice Europen walnut stock with a high comb and a beaver tail for grip. The last thing I had to replace was the main spring (which was put in incorrectly by a gun smith and it broke). Last week I finally had a chance to shoot it. After several shots the gun disassembled in my hands. After some inspection I noticed that the block (under the barrel) that the foregrip presses against is loose. The metal that holds the barrels together in front of this block seems strong.

Will the barrels need to be completely re-soldered? Or can a spot soldering be done?

The next problem I noticed was when the gun fired the receiver lever would swing to the right and quickly snap back to center.

Is this something that can be fixed? What is the problem? Or is it simply a result of using trap loads?

And lastly my three position safety does not work. It seems to function correctly, it moves just like it should in all three positions but the gun will fire in safe.

does this sound like a simple fix like the others I have read about in this forum?

I hope to have this fixed some day and use it for trap with out fear that it will fall apart. This baby can really dust the clays.

    Thanks for your time.
