Skip, as a reference point, I measured the chamber lengths of an 1892 grade 2 Syracuse Smith. Left chamber is 2.768" Right chamber is 2.775". I measured chamber length by measuring how far into the chamber I could insert a 0.7930" diameter rod before it hit the forcing cone. There are various methods of making this measurement and I can not confirm that the chambers are original length, but at least it's a data point.
