    Chamber length question Archived Message

I am sure this has been discussed over and over again but I have a question about 12 gauge chambers. In a discussion about shooting 2 3/4" shells in short chambers someone mentioned that he knows someone that does that with a damascus barreled hammerless gun. I'm sorry but I don't have a serial number for the year of manufacture. I have looked through Brophy's book and I see in the glossary an ad from a 1907 catalog and it has the chambers for a 12 gauge as 2 3/4". I am fairly certain I have been told that L.C. Smith always cut chambers to 2 3/4". Is that the case going back to the 1880's?
