The late Col. Brophy wrote -- "A total of 507 Premier Skeet Guns were made by the L.C. SMITH Gun Co. during the period of 1949 to 1950. However, when the L.C. Smith Gun Co. ceased operations, a number of unfinished Premier Skeet frames, barrels, and parts were sold to gun shops and gunsmiths. In some cases, these components have been assembled into finished guns which are now being represented as original. Careful inspection of the quality of the work and also an inquiry to Marlin Firearms Company -- furnishing a complete description, all markings and the full serial number of the gun -- will ascertain if the gun is authentic "factory" or not." Of course nowdays the inquiry would be to Cody.
The marking of the words PREMIER SKEET on the barrel flats of this gun in two different sized stamps makes this gun seem rather suspect to me.
