    assembly damage? Archived Message

I recently aquired a 12 ga. LC in very good condition with serial# 38xx which, unless I'm reading the chart wrong, was made around 1919. I was looking thru the FAQ section and noticed you advise against assembling forend if gun is not cocked. I fear I have done this several times in an effort to use snap caps in other guns. Does this mean damage has been done? And if so what are indications that any damage has occured? Am not sure if this is my imagination, but seem to need more effort to break open gun lately. Please advise... Thanks
