Henry, I'm not a gun smith but I would think that the wood should be tight all around the metal. If your gun has the Hunter-One Trigger than the safety is manual. Also some people don't like auto safeties, don't know why, so they disconnect them. Easy to do just make sure the safety link of the trigger assembly doesn't engage the safety slide.
