Frank: it's very likely that an almost 80 year old LC could use a good check and clean, and crack repair/glasbed the head of the stock. Why not let a good doublegun smith disassemble, check the wood and make any necessary repairs, you can do the re-finish, and he can reassemble? Or do the Murphy's Oil Soap and Mylands Polish as discussed on the FAQ http://www.lcsmith.org/faq/cleangun2.html
