    Several answers Rob:
    1. Modern shotshells with plastic wads/shotcups and hard shot pattern much tighter than c. 1920s shotshells.
    2. You could use Polywad SpredR loads to open the pattern, but this gets expensive for clays shooting unless you are handloading http://www.polywad-shotgun-shells.com/spred-r-spreader-loads/
    3. Unless the gun is a pristine or high grade collectible, make the gun right for you and your intended use-just have the work done correctly. These wonderful guns were made to be used, and you'll enjoy (and use) the gun much more. Others will disagree.
