    Dave, as Dr. Bill stated it is very unlikely that the coupler screw is stripped. It is a coarse thread compared to the top lever screw which is smaller in diameter and is the one screw of all the screws that will get stripped if not installed right. If the top lever post shaft is not into it's fit in the trigger plate housing when assembling there is a good possibilty the small 4x40x1/4" long shank of the screw will get stripped if you try and use it to pull the top lever post shaft into place.
    Dr. Bill would be the one to ask and or fix
