Randy, a very simple test that you can do yourself is to remove the barrels and clean them throughly inside and out. Dry them and remove any oil with lacquer thinner or acetone. Then place a few drops of some thin oil,Hoppe's No. 9 works well, in the barrel of concern. Allow the oil to run over the affected area, then level the barrels on the bench and leave them for 20-30 minutes. If the ?scratches? are through and through you will get Hoppe's on the outside.
