LC Pigeon grade. Questions??? Archived Message

The subject is a Pigeon PE grade, SN 200146, Questions: It has a replacement barrel, with a stamp forward of the barrel flats. Info on the stamp as follows: Trade Mark, H A C, Nitro Steel, this wording encircles a logo of a bent arm holding shafts of wheat. The rib is carried over from the original barrel. Barrel fit and finish is excellent. Barrel flats contain only the SN and PE. All as clean as a new penny. Any thoughts on the maker of the barrels. One concerning issue is in the left barrel are two 4-5 inch scratches or stress fractures just ahead of the chambers. If stratches, can they be caused by steel shot? Anyone recall seeing minute fractures in barrels? Stock appears to be an early[factory] attempt at a raised comb? Did the factory offer such a stock configuration? It"s 14" LOP to the butt with a 1" Pacmyar attached, making it 15"LOP. Wood, by the way is nicely figured and with enough handling marks and old finish to appear as original. Another distracting issue is someone tried to retouch the pigeons and background with an engraving tool. One last question, which I probably know the answer, but is a replacement barrel an albatross to its value? And, to what degree? Thanks in advance for all your help. I don't know how to post photos, but would send via e-mail if anyone interested in seeing the above gun. Just e-mail me. [raven@freeway.net] Randy
