Gun Case VL & A Archived Message

My 1913 Ideal Grade 12 ga. Elsie is in a nice leather case. It is oval, with hand tooling. Leather handle, leather shoulder strap. Opens at both ends. Brass hardware.

My grandfather's initials, "CB" are tooled into one side. The inside has green felt. One end is marked VL&A Chicago, which from some research is Von Lengerke & Antoine, a Chicago branch of Von Lengerke & Detmold, a competitor to Abercombie & Fitch at the time this gun was made.

My grandfather was 18 in 1913. The case is in very good condition with some handling marks and scratches because of 94 years of existence, but it is all functional. There is some indication that VL&A bought such cases from Heiser?

Do any of you know if this case may have been offered with the gun by LC Smith (Fulton), or if perhaps VL&D sold the gun and the case (separately) in 1913 or 1914? Any idea as to value of the case?

    TIA CB3
