Your point is very valid, it may appear as such. That reason, and others, are why this should be discussed if there is enough interest. Who owns the guns is not the point of the database, the guns themselves are. Therefore, it may be perfectly acceptable to have this database with out ownership attached to the guns.
I am not comfortable documenting each and every gun I own too, but am perfectly fine contributing my shotguns info to someone researching these and archiving it's survival. Perhaps just gun info is all we should try and obtain. These are all just ideas, more info and more ideas are needed to form some sort of census on this proposed continuation of documenting L.C. Smith shotguns.
If there is not enough interest OR if there are too many obstacles in the path to do it correctly, the idea should be set aside for now.
