I should have known, but those barrels looked very-much like an old G-grade I once owned (the dolls-head was what threw me). So...is it fair to say braided tubes can be broken down into 3 distinct groups (ie., twist, damascus and laminated)? And, if so, are those German tubes a member of the twist family? Like a wire-twist?
Is attempting such a taxonomy even appropriate here (has anyone ever tried?), or are the evolutionary variants too-disjointed and different to even compare? For example, I would (with my admittedly-limited knowledge of the subject) tend to lump Star Damascus in with the higher-end 3 & 4 bar Crolles, but is it something else altogether?
Damnably obscure, but fascinating stuff to me, I guess. Other than Dr. Gaddy, are you aware of anyone who has studied the subject closely?
