I recently purchased a 1929 Field Grade Featherweight 12 gage that's in nice, and apparently original, shape. The stock and butt plate both appear original. Obviously this is not fancy walnut, but the stock looks really nice, to my crude eyes at least. However, it only has a 14 in. LOP, and I probably need at least another 3/4 in. I bought this gun for hunting, and so I need to work on the fit, but I want to mess around with the stock as little as possible. Does anyone have any suggestions about recoil pads, etc., that can be put on, are durable in the field, but can be removed without damage or alteration to the underlying wood or plate? Thanks.
