French Polishing stock Archived Message

Here is a replacement stock for an Ideal Grade. I am using amber shellac and the old hand way of French polishing coat upon coat. Only part of it is done as you can see, 5 coats now. Waiting for the butt pad to come to finish the rest. Will probably put a final coat of varnish over the shellac to help it from moisture. Gun came with a whiteline rubber recoil pad. hard as a rock as SGT put it. Length is long enough, so I am waiting for a butt plate to put on it. Not happy with the ones you can get through Midway, which also carries Vintage grips and butt plates, The backs have a narrow lip and by the time you grind it to fit, you are past the lip. Why can't they just make a solid back. Any way I am trying Brownell's, theirs is solid in the back. Anybody have any suggstions on a decent one, and not the ones from Glazans.
