Has anyone heard of a forend wearing out. By this I mean the checkering visible only in certain light, metal around roller release stands proud and worst of all the wood below the J hook has worn so thin a piece fell out.
A gunsmith has said the wood inside is too oil impregnated to glue a repair in from above, he is suggesting planing the bottom of the forend and glueing a piece of walnut on and oiling it to match.
If anyone can give me a beter idea Iwould appreciate the help. The checking on the stock and forend do not match, the stock is also cracked. This gun has had a lot of use, worn 2 stocks and 1 forend, but is still a pretty girl who shoots like dream.
    Thanks for any help
