I think that too many people put to much emphasis on "chokes". It really doesn't matter what might be stamped on a barrel as far as choke is concerned. If you shoot more than one type, brand, load of shell even if the loads are the same, you will get different patterns.
Since L.C. Smith did not in all cases put chokes markings on most all of there guns, not that it would make a difference anyway. If you have the book by Brophy, on page 159 he goes into detail on chokes and it is very interesting. (If any one needs to know what is there I will send them the information). What he did state was that 12 ga. bore is .732, Imp. cyl. is .725, Mod. .710, full .695. 16 ga. bore .662, Imp. cyl. .657, mod. .639, full .629 20 ga. bore .615 imp. cyl. .610, mod. 595, full .585.
So disregard what other manufacturers state about what chokes should be, this is what L.C. Smiths were bored, reamed to.
Also in reading other shotgun forums, people in there state that their L.C. Smith is choked xxfull, not so, L.C. Smith stated "sometimes we are asked to bore a gun to make a pattern closer than a full choke. We always refuse such a request, for the following reasons:" it goes on stating about lack of penetration and uneven pattern.
L.C. Smith called it the Multiplied Choke Bore System.
