I guess I'd first ask the purpose of the pad. If it is for authenticity, then a period pad is the way to go. If it is for real recoil reduction then I'd suggest one of the newer 4th generation type pads like Hi-Viz or Limbsaver or Kickeeze. The period pads were the first step in reducing the unplesant effects of recoil but technology/modern chemisry have vastly improved over the basic rubber of the first generation pads. Best, Dr. Bill
