1st LC Smith Purchase

I’m trying to purchase a LC Smith Field model. Is there a way to tell the age just looking at the serial number. I’d like to purchase a gun that with a little TLC can be used upland hunting. The one shotgun I’m looking at is a serial number above 400000. Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated.
