Thanks Tom, the for-end wood on the Syracuse guns is wider than the Fulton guns. Also Syracuse guns did not have the dog escutcheon but as shown some of the transition Syracuse ones did have the double like diamond escutcheon and like shown had the large convex ribs. Bell-shaped ebony tip is a good term, for some reason I said hour-glass, don' know what I was thinking.
