Thanks David for your insight. I would assume that leather faced hunting trousers would be very heavy. Here are some new pictures of a hunting style that is decidedly more American. Heavy, thick wool in classic red and black plaid patterns. They were primarily used in the northeast & north-central US for big game hunting (deer & elk) in heavy snow at times called a “Pennsylvania Tuxedo”. Most popular in during the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
The pictures near the end are of a pair of these hunting pants under the brand name “Emergency Garment”, which was actually made by Woolrich. I found them at a local thrift store and they fit me. It took several months for me to find an “Emergency Garment” coat on EBay with the matching plaid pattern in my size. Finding a hat that matches the plaid pattern exactly has been difficult. LL Bean’s Maine Hunting Shoe has always had a 16 inch version to accommodate these laced pant legs.
