Zachary, it is very possible that the steel used in the hammer gun frames had less or different alloys than the hammerless guns and therefore you wouldn't get the same colors. And to be honest, who can tell what the original colors were like on a 100+-year-old F grade hammer gun as most were either barn guns or field guns that were very well used.
