As long as the weight of the shot charge doesn't change, you can substitute #4, 5, or 6 with no increase in pressures. The only difference you might see is a slight change in height of the finished load before crimping, which should not be an issue with small shot; but would be if you were going from large shot to very small. For instance, I once dumped the BB shot out of a batch of 3 1/2" 10-gauge magnums and refilled those hulls with as much #9 shot as they would hold and still crimp so my B-I-L could take his big gun dove shooting. Because there was much more air space between the BB shot than the #9's, and I didn't bother to weigh the load; those shells must have contained 3 ounces of #9 aa were noticeably heavier. Fortunately, my B-I-L wasn't killed or injured, and this bad shot actually got the legal limit that day; but he paid the price as that gun beat the living dog lard out of the ole boy. He was bruised black, blue, green, orange, and yellow from his elbow to his ear. We still laugh about that to this day.
