Modifying factory shotshels

Hi all, been years since I've posted anything, but now I have a question that only this board can answer. I have a 1926, 12 ga. Ideal grade. Had the usual cracks at the wrist that were professionally repaired. I've been using it on clays, but would like to take it into the field for pheasant this fall. I do not reload and have no room to set anything up. That being said, Can I take my usual rounds, Winchester AA, 2 3/4 Dr. Eq. 1 1/8 oz. 7.5 shot and exchange the 7.5 for 1 oz. of 5 shot? I have the ability to re-crimp the shells. The last thing I want to do is take a chance on doing any damage to this fine old shotgun. Thanks, Dick Willey Knoxville, TN.
