Based on what little is visible of the checkering, the gun could have been restocked at some point in its lifetime as the checkering is not to LC standards. As Drew noted, the issue with that lock plate is only cosmetic; and I personally would prefer the gun remain in its current unrestored condition. You certainly have a fine family treasure; and if you do decide to shoot the gun, know that the chambers will be shorter than today's 2 3/4" standard if they are original, but proper length shells loaded to period pressures are available from RST and others.
