Welcome Wade and I'm glad you posted as I remain confused regarding the "Field Special"
Brophy states the "Field Special" was introduced in 1939, at $48, as the "New Improved Field Grade" with added ivory sights and recoil pad.
Dr. Jim's "Production Records" makes no specific mention of "Field Special" in the shipping records, and also states the ebony FE insert was not supplied on Field Grade FEs.
He'll no doubt see this and hopefully can clarify.
This is a 1939 ad mentioning the "New Improved Field Grade" for $45 but not the "Field Special"
A 1940 Hunter Arms folder with no mention of the "Field Special"
Anxious to see the comments by others more knowledgeable.
BTW: your gun is at the point when the 16g 2 9/16" chambers were lengthened to 2 3/4" so please measure the chamber length.
