I recently bought my first L.C. Smith ( I won't be able to pick it up for a couple of weeks so no pics yet) it is a 16 gauge field grade in well-used but complete and un-altered condition, still very tight and lively, it features a recoil pad that looks original, an ivory front bead and a black ( ebony? ) diamond inleted into the peak of the forend, I've seen references to a " field special" $3 option that added these features in 1936 and 37 but cannot find any photos of guns with them, is it possible that I've stumbled onto a hidden gem? I bought both the Smith and a 12 gauge Baker in about the same condition for the price of hosting a decent dinner/ cocktail party and I think that they both will be more fun
, I've done a bit of research here and commend the association for such a fine and informative resource.
