There are other options also. If the LOP is your primary concern you can always install a period correct pad such as a Hawkins or Silvers; which will give you an extra one inch LOP, and an extra thick Silvers type pad is available that is 1 1/2" thick but their "look" has no appeal to me personally. If the drop is too much, lace-on leather comb raisers are available, and are used by a number of shooters using vintage double guns. Clearly the best, but most expensive alternative is to have a stocker custom craft a new stock to your dimensions; and yes, the original stock should be saved in the event you decided to sell the gun as that stock could be reinstalled. You never stated gun grade; and that information is important in a restock. Pre-1913 era Smith guns were stocked with English Walnut, whereas all lower Grade post-1913 Smith guns and some higher grades were stocked with American black walnut.
