Hello all. I am new to lc smith I currently own and heirloom Parker. My question is. I am a large tall guy, the lop is horrible on these guns. Can you have a gun restocked and keep original stock. Can the old stock be put back on and maintain original value. Eric

Certainly Eric. Check this thread for a few specialists that could do the work, and there are others https://members.boardhost.com/lcsmith/msg/1671489296.html However, the restock will likely start at $2000 and unless your Smith is a higher grade the cost thereof might exceed the value of the gun.

Eric There are other options also. If the LOP is your primary concern you can always install a period correct pad such as a Hawkins or Silvers; which will give you an extra one inch LOP, and an extra thick Silvers type pad is available that is 1 1/2" thick but their "look" has no appeal to me personally. If the drop is too much, lace-on leather comb raisers are available, and are used by a number of shooters using vintage double guns. Clearly the best, but most expensive alternative is to have a stocker custom craft a new stock to your dimensions; and yes, the original stock should be saved in the event you decided to sell the gun as that stock could be reinstalled. You never stated gun grade; and that information is important in a restock. Pre-1913 era Smith guns were stocked with English Walnut, whereas all lower Grade post-1913 Smith guns and some higher grades were stocked with American black walnut. But if you decide to restock your gun you'll find no better craftsman to do that work than Kirk Kimsey; his number is 706/994-7508
